SOCP is Special Operations Combatives Program. Benchmade built the 185 with Greg Thompson, who runs it, and the design came out of feedback from the people using the previous SOCP tools rather than from a catalogue slot that needed filling.
What came back was a knife that is 11.736" long and weighs 5.78 oz -- thin and light for its reach, which is the whole point when it is one item on a loadout that already weighs too much.
CPM-3V is a tool steel chosen for toughness, which on a blade this long and this thin is the property that actually matters: a 7" dagger blade at 0.15" thick has leverage working against it, and 3V is about as resistant to chipping and breaking as a hardenable steel gets. Benchmade run it at 60-62 HRC.
3V is not stainless. It has some corrosion resistance and the Cerakote covers most of the blade, but the edge is bare steel and it will spot if it is put away wet. Dry it and oil the edge occasionally and it will outlast almost anything else in the kit.
The black finish is Cerakote, a ceramic-filled coating that is genuinely abrasion- and corrosion-resistant rather than decorative -- which is doing real work on a non-stainless blade.
Black PIM and MOLLE compatible, so it mounts to webbing rather than needing a belt.
Used - excellent condition. Bought as a used/excellent knife and listed as exactly that. The photographs are the most accurate description of this exact knife; please look at them closely.

Crucible make no corrosion-resistance claim for this steel on either datasheet. At 7.5% chromium it is not stainless, though it carries no chromium carbide.
