Comparison ratings are Bearly Defense’s own 0–10 scale for judging steels against each other. They are a considered opinion, not a laboratory measurement. Composition and hardness figures below come from the manufacturer’s published datasheet.
Crucible Industries · USA
A powder-metallurgy martensitic stainless tool steel whose alloy design eliminates chromium carbide from the hardened microstructure. It was designed by metallurgist Dr. Larrin Thomas, first proposed to Crucible in June 2019, with distribution beginning in April 2021. The design goal was a stainless equivalent of CPM-4V — the toughness and edge-retention balance of CruWear and 4V, with stainless corrosion resistance.

The trade-offGives up top-tier abrasive wear resistance for toughness and corrosion resistance: its carbide is vanadium and niobium with no chromium carbide at all, which keeps the chromium dissolved in the matrix where it resists corrosion.
Crucible’s tempering table spans 58.5–63 HRC; this is the recommended-treatment figure.
