The Purple Anodized Titanium
Purple is rare on a Talon, and it is the reason to own this one. The Talon is a titanium frame knife, and on this one the handle, the backspacer, the Gripclip and the Hawk Lock latch are all purple anodized titanium — not paint, not a coating. Anodizing colours titanium by growing an oxide layer on the metal itself, so there is nothing sitting on top to chip, flake or rub thin where your hand goes. It is the titanium you are looking at.
Hawk builds the Talon in tumbled, brightwashed, bronze, blue and DLC. Purple turns up far less often, and paired with a white and black inlay it is a combination you will not see on a shelf.
The White and Black TechnoCarbo
Set into each titanium scale is a TechnoCarbo inlay. TechnoCarbo is a pigmented carbon fibre composite — the colour is built into the laminate and runs through the material rather than being sprayed onto the surface, so it does not wear off the way a finish does. On this knife it is a marbled mix of white and black: bright, irregular, high gloss, with dark veining running through it.
No two sets come out alike. That is simply how the material is made, and it means the pattern on this knife belongs to this knife. What you see in the photographs is the piece you will receive.
The Stonewash M390
M390 is the steel collectors ask for by name — a powder stainless known for its edge retention and its corrosion resistance. Here it is 3.375" long with a 3.25" cutting edge, 0.156" thick at the spine, in a stonewash finish.
The Hawk Lock and Toggle Detent
In Hawk's own words: the Talon features an M390 blade steel, titanium frame and backspacer, along with the Gripclip, and the mechanism features the Hawk Lock and the Toggle Detent. The latch is purple anodized titanium, matched to the handle and the Gripclip — right hand, tip up. 7.875" open, 4.34 oz. Made in the USA.
Limited Production
The Talon is a limited production knife from G&G Hawk, and this purple anodized titanium configuration is a rare one. This is a single unit; when it sells it is gone.
