Serial Number 005
This is a BROP exclusive run, and this knife is serial 005 -- the fifth one out of it.
Low serials go first and they do not come back on the market often, because the people who buy a numbered knife in single digits are generally not the people who resell it. What a low number is worth is a matter of opinion; what it is, is not. This one is 005.
The 80s CamoCarbon Handle
This is the run. CamoCarbon is a carbon-fibre laminate with colour laid into the weave -- the pattern runs through the material rather than sitting on top of it, so it cannot wear off, scuff through, or fade the way a printed or coated finish does. Every sheet cuts differently, which means the pattern on this knife is not repeated on any other.
The box calls it "Awesome 80's Carbon Fiber." That is the marketing line on the packaging, not the material name -- the material is CamoCarbon.
CPM MagnaCut
Conventional stainless steels buy corrosion resistance by tying their chromium up in carbides, and those carbides are where a hard-used edge chips. MagnaCut is built to avoid that trade, leaving the chromium in solution: stainless corrosion resistance, with toughness in the range of non-stainless tool steels, on a blade that still takes a fine edge.
The DLC Blade Coating
DLC is Diamond-Like Carbon -- a carbon coating deposited in a vacuum, structurally related to diamond. It is applied as a thin, extremely hard layer, considerably harder than the steel underneath it, and it does two things: it resists abrasion and scratching far better than a painted or Cerakote finish, and it cuts friction, so the blade moves through material with less drag and picks up less of it.
The honest trade-off: DLC is hard, not thick. It resists scratching very well and it is not going to flake, but a hard enough strike on an edge or a corner can still mark it, and once marked it does not touch up -- a DLC blade is recoated, not repaired. On a knife this size, carried in a sheath, that is close to academic.
A Fixed Blade That Carries Like a Folder
6.00" overall, full tang, no lock and no pivot because it needs neither. There is nothing on it to deploy and nothing on it to fail. The scales are set on press-fit pins rather than screws, so there is nothing to back out in a pocket.
Condition
New in box and unused, with the original leather sheath and factory packaging.
The Weight
On the weight: 2.0 oz for the knife alone, which is BladeRunner Outpost published specification for this exact SKU -- they commissioned this run. Six other dealers list the Kobold platform between 2.0 and 2.2 oz and Heretic own launch announcement calls it "just over 2 ounces". BROP also publish 4.6 oz with the sheath; that figure is theirs rather than one measured on this knife.
