Southern Grind Jackal

A Knife From a Company That Has Closed

Southern Grind built the Jackal in the United States out of 8670M high carbon steel, wrapped it in 3D-milled G-10 and shipped it in a Kydex sheath that carries either way up. Then the company stopped.

Their website now serves one sentence and nothing else: "Southern Grind is no longer in business and has officially ceased all operations." That is their own wording, and it is the only text of theirs still standing — the catalogue went with the site. The Jackal is discontinued, the dealers who still list it list it sold out, and there is no restock coming.

The 8670M Blade

4.75 inches of 8670M high carbon steel, 0.21 inches thick at the spine, flat ground to a plain edge and finished in black PVD. Dealer spec sheets put it at 59–60 HRC.

8670M is not stainless, and that is worth saying plainly rather than burying: it takes and holds a working edge, and like every carbon steel it will patina if it goes away wet. Dry it and it will outlast you.

The 3D-Milled G-10

Black and tan G-10, machined rather than moulded — real G-10 through the whole scale, not a coating or a laminate over plastic. The knife is full tang. 4.50 inch handle, 9.5 oz in the hand, which is a knife you know you are carrying.

The Kydex Sheath

Included, black, and adjustable for vertical or horizontal belt carry — so it rides the way you want rather than the way someone else decided.

Zac Brown's Shop

Southern Grind was founded by the musician Zac Brown, whose shop in Peachtree City, Georgia turned out knives and metalwork. The brand changed hands in 2021 and production later moved out of Georgia; the knives kept coming until operations ended. This one was made in the USA.

Why This One Is Not Replaceable

A discontinued knife usually means the maker moved on to the next model. This is not that.

The company does not exist any more. There is no next model, no second run, no dealer allocation waiting somewhere, and no one left to make another. Every dealer who carried the Jackal shows it sold out, and nothing is coming in behind them. The knives already out in the world are the whole remaining supply, and that is permanent.

That is the difference between a knife you have to wait for and a knife you have to find.

Condition

New and unused, with its black Kydex sheath. There is no box - this is the knife and its sheath only. The photographs are the most accurate description of this exact knife; please look at them closely.
