The Point and the Edges

Statutory definitions of “metal knuckles” typically reference metallic, multi-finger devices designed to augment a punch. By each of those measures, the Black Talon falls outside that category.

Why It Is Not a Push Dagger

A push dagger is defined by its T-shaped geometry: a short, sharpened blade set perpendicular to a cross-bar handle, gripped in a closed fist so the blade projects forward for thrusting. The Black Talon abandons that geometry entirely:

• The tip follows the axis of the finger, parallel to it — no perpendicular handle, no T-bar.
• It is worn on one finger, not grasped inside the palm, so it cannot channel a true forward “push” thrust.
• It has no blade at all — the tip is pointed, but the edges are dull and cannot cut. There is nothing sharpened to set into a crossbar.

By geometry and by construction, it does not meet the definition of a push dagger.

Notes on Commonly-Questioned States

Several states are commonly cited in online discussions as potentially restricting items like the Black Talon. Below is our statutory analysis for each, explaining why we sell in these states and what buyers should know.

California (CA) — Sold and shipped. California Penal Code § 16920 defines “metal knuckles” as a device “made wholly or partially of metal that is worn on the hand.” The Black Talon is made entirely of PET-CF composite — no metallic content. It does not fall within this statutory definition. California law does not expressly prohibit non-metallic, single-finger ring tools of this type. California buyers should still be aware that local ordinances may vary, and carry in certain contexts (government buildings, schools, courts) is universally restricted.

New York (NY) — Sold and shipped. New York Penal Law § 265.01(1) prohibits “metal knuckles.” New York courts interpret this to mean metallic devices designed to be worn across several fingers to amplify a punch. The Black Talon is entirely non-metallic (PET-CF composite) and fits only a single finger. It does not meet the metallic or multi-finger criteria of the statute and is sold in New York as a utility tool. NY buyers should be aware of local firearms/weapon permit nuances and avoid carry in restricted locations.

New Jersey (NJ) — Sold and shipped. New Jersey N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3 enumerates prohibited weapons including sawed-off shotguns, silencers, and “stun guns” but does not list single-finger non-metallic ring tools. However, NJ's catch-all provision N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5(d) prohibits possession of “any weapon under circumstances not manifestly appropriate for such lawful uses as it may have.” This is a circumstantial standard — the same object may or may not be a “weapon” depending on context and intent. Oklahoma's “offensive weapon” provisions (21 O.S. § 1289.12 and similar) have been applied by courts primarily to clearly weaponized items with no legitimate utility function. The Black Talon's non-metallic, single-finger, edgeless profile keeps it outside these classifications as a utility tool. OK buyers should still use reasonable judgment about carry context.

States Where Carry May Be Restricted

California, New York, New Jersey, and Oklahoma all have laws that broadly define “dangerous weapons,” “offensive weapons,” or “deadly weapons” beyond their specific prohibited-item lists. Even where the Black Talon falls outside named statutory categories, overly cautious interpretations or context-dependent enforcement in these states may classify a single-finger ring with a point as a dangerous implement in certain situations.
